Boudoir Photography FAQ

What is Boudoir photography?

The word boudoir is French and is defined as a woman’s bedroom or private room for dressing or resting. In modern terms it is used to refer to beautiful, sensual photos of females. Boudoir photography is intended to create sensual, seductive and classy images of a woman in her most alluring form. Usually the session is set in a bedroom or hotel room but can also be outside as well (in a secluded area of course!). Images can be used as gifts for a spouse/significant other or even just to boost your confidence!

What should I expect before and during my photography session?

We will schedule a consultation before the actual photography sessions so we can discuss what kind of pictures you want, and any ideas or concerns you may have. The day of the photography session you can expect to look and feel beautiful. You can also expect to have the most incredible time posing in front of the camera for what will be amazing pictures that will last a lifetime!

I'm a little shy, will the photographer be a man?

This is a question we often get asked. We are a husband and wife team and always do sessions together. Your photographer is a male and the assistant/poser is a female. The photographer will turn his back or leave the room if it would make you more comfortable when changing poses or clothing. Many of our boudoir clients have commented on how relaxed and discreet our service is. Of course, you can bring a friend to the photography session if you would like or if it would make you feel more comfortable.

Can I bring a friend to my boudoir session?

Absolutely! In fact, we encourage it. The most important aspect of the day is your comfort. It is okay to bring a friend, but large groups tend to be a distraction so we normally recommend just one. Just make sure they are fun, friendly and most importantly that you will be comfortable being photographed in front of them. As a male photographer we always have a female assistant (my wife Melody) with us at every photography session.

Will we meet before the session?

Yes! We would love to meet with you beforehand. We can either meet in person, or talk on the phone. We love getting to know our clients! We like to know more about you, what you want from your boudoir session, what your comfort level is, etc. The more we get to know each other, the more fun and relaxed your experience is. Also, we want the boudoir session to be an accurate reflection of who you are – We can only do that if we know each other better.

I Don't Know How To Pose!

Our boudoir photography sessions are completely laid back and relaxed! There’s no pressure at all, and we guide you through every pose, don't stress yourself over this. Posing is something that only big-time models have perfected; and even they are given direction during photo sessions!

We are going to guide you through this process and make you look (and feel!) your best during your boudoir session. Your images will showcase you having a fabulous time, feeling completely comfortable in your naturally sexy state.

What should I bring with me to my boudoir photography session?

Do I bring my own lingerie, or do you provide the outfits? Anything that makes you feel confident and sexy! A few suggested items are bra and panty sets, boy shorts, corsets, stockings or thigh highs (regular or seamed), and negligees. Select outfits that suit your personality and body shape, and complement your skin tone.

Don’t forget jewelry (chunky necklaces, earrings, bracelets, and rings) and shoes! High heels accentuate the natural curve of the calf and make the shoulders and back look their best. Other items that clients have brought in might reflect their man’s favorite items, hobbies, or sports team, such as a favorite shirt or sweater, a team jersey, or a guitar! The thing to remember is that you may not do this again for a while, so having more to work with is the best option!

What about hair and makeup?

Hair and makeup is not included in our packages that we offer. We can have a professional do this for you, but it would be at an additional charge than the standard package fee. If not, then you would be responsible for your own hair and makeup and or hiring someone to do it for you.

Do I have to be nude?

Absolutely not. It is a common misconception that boudoir photographs must contain nudity. The comfort of our clients is always our top priority. At Abigayle Ray Photography, we aim to please and never expect more than the client is comfortable with. Ultimately, you are doing this for yourself or your loved one and only you know what your comfort zone is.

Where will my boudoir session take place?

To ensure a unique non cookie-cutter experience, all boudoir photography sessions are done on location either at your home, a friend’s home, a hotel room, or…even outdoors (in a secluded/private area of course!). If you prefer to have your boudoir session at your home, a pre-consultation can be done in-house, otherwise there are several hotels/resorts in the area that offer a great backdrop. Please inquire with the studio if you need some suggestions or are looking for a specific ‘vibe’, such as romantic or modern.

I’m engaged and would LOVE to give this to my future hubby as a special gift. When should I book my boudoir photography session in order to have the pictures ready before the Wedding?

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS!!! Bridal boudoir sessions are extra special because they celebrate the beginning of one of the most important stages of your life. We LOVE photographing bridal boudoir sessions! For all our clients, including those interested in a “bridal boudoir” theme, we recommend booking a session for 3 months before the desired date of product delivery.

Will my photos be on the internet?

Not unless you say it’s ok! Every client we feature on our website has given us written permission to post their images. If you aren’t comfortable with any images being shared, that is completely fine, just let us know! We never post any nude images, and we will never show your face unless you are ok with that.

How do I reserve my Boudoir Photography Session with you?

All dates are reserved once we receive your signed contract and full payment of the session.

• Please be advised: Dates are booked on a first come, first served basis. Dates are not held pending a scheduled meeting, after a meeting, or a phone call/email stating you want a specific date. Your date is booked/reserved only after your session has been paid for in full, until then, other clients may book the date that you wish to have if they submit their contract and retainer/payment in the meantime.

Is there an extra charge for going over the session time?

Yes, all sessions have a time limit on them, please see the Pricing Section of our website for details on our Boudoir Packages that we offer including the amount of time with each one. We never pack up before the contracted time; and moreover we’re not leaving on the dot when the contracted time is up. Instead, we will ask you at the end of your contracted time whether or not you would like to extend. If you would like us to stay, we will charge the rates specified in your contract.

Please see your contract for rates and details.

I can’t make my photography date, can I reschedule?

Absolutely. We understand things come up and sometimes a date no longer works especially if you book far in advance, so we’re happy to change the date or time for you as long as your new date/time is available. We do request that you contact us as soon as you know that you need a change of date as we book weeks and sometimes even months in advance, especially around the holidays, so we need to also make sure we have your new date available.
